Iranian team and players won awards at the AFC Women’s Futsal Championship with a 5-2 win over Japan in the final match in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday.
Team Melli also claimed the Fair Play Award to take a clean sweep of the honors.
The invaluable title of our country's women's national futsal team at AFC Women's Futsal Championship for the second consecutive time and the echo of the national anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran caused great cheerfulness in Iranians.
These women are not just futsal players. Each of them is a heroine who has struggled against all restrictions, as well as ethnic and tribal prejudices to achieve what this sector of society demands.
The victory was celebrated in the country, with football’s all-time international goal-scoring record-holder Ali Daei and Team Melli head coach Carlos Queiroz among the football luminaries to send messages of congratulations.
President of the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) Mehdi Taj, head coach of Iran's national football team Carlos Queiroz and Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, in separate messages, have felicitated the triumph, and praised the efforts made by female Iranian futsal players to win the championship.
President Hassan Rouhani sent a message of congratulations. “This sweet victory is another sign of the dynamism, capabilities and merit of this land's dear women and girls, and I hope that the sport authorities pay more attention to women to let us witness the continuation of this path to pride and hope in other women sports. I pray to the Almighty for the continuous pride of the young people of our Islamic Iran who are the most important assets of our dear country.”
