Former Tehran Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor Saeed Mortazavi was given a life long ban from the Justice Department by Branch 38 of the country's Supreme Court, in the case known as the Kahrizak Crimes. He is also banned from holding any government or public office for five years.
The reason for this verdict was his illegal issuance of arrest warrants and writing a falsified report of the events that took place in Kahrizak detention centre. Following the controversial presidential elections of 2009, four of the protesters had died in the detention centre, and following these deaths, the Supreme Leader ordered the closure of the detention centre for failing to be of necessary standards.
The Supreme Court's verdict was confirmed for Mortazavi when he and two of his colleagues when in June last year they had been tried and found guilty by Branch 76 of Criminal Court, and the appeals court and the Supreme Court had sustained the verdicts.
