Join us in ending celebratory gunfire!
In partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SEESAC) and Instituto de Enseñanza para el Desarrollo Sostenible (IEPADES), ODVV as a member of International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA) invites all to celebrate this holiday season with your heart, not a gun!
Celebratory gunfire, or the firing of shots in the air, is a very dangerous practice, which results in the production of stray bullets that injure and kill innocent victims. Unfortunately, celebratory gunfire during annual celebrations, wedding events and new year celebrations kills and injures a significant number of civilians. This has also happened in Iran, and in some cities, it is common to use weapons to show happiness. Therefore, the ODVV has decided to join the IANSA and invite all its members and Iranian civil society organization on expand awareness raising activities in order to stop the use of weapons during the celebrations and replace it with new peaceful methods.
It is noted that from December 22nd to January 5th, IANSA and its members invites you to raise awareness of this very important issue.
