Capital Punishments of the Recent Years have...
In an interview with the Khaneh Mellat News Agency’s reporter regarding the proposal to removal of capital punishment for drugs trafficking, Justice Minister Mostafa Pourmohammadi said: “the principle of capital punishment cannot be rejected, because there are some corrupt indviduals in the country that no other punishments are deserving for them apart from capital punishment, and this subject in accordance with Islamic commands and approval of the country judicial system and of course the experiences of many countries cannot be rejected.”
He explained: “the number of capital punishments and examples of these crimes for which capital punishment has been considred, are some of the serious subjects that can be discussed and debated.”
Stating that it seems tat the volume of executions over the recent years have not worked, the Minister reminded that: “therefore capital punishment must be reviewed, and of course the Judiciary Branch agrees with this view in general.”
Stating that currently the Judiciary is reviewing and negotiating the review of capital punishment, Poormohammadi said: “In fact we are trying to establish what type of punishment is more effective where and to which individuals, so that we can consider alternative punishments to capital punishment, of course the preservation of capital punishment is on the agenda, but not the amount that is carried out these days.”
