Human Rights Experts: Israel Violates Human...
On March 6, 2025, 16 special rapporteurs on human rights, along with 3 working groups and 3 independent experts, issued a statement strongly condemning Israel's decision to resume the blockade of Gaza and halt humanitarian aid. They considered this action a blatant violation of international law and a serious obstacle to any peaceful efforts.
The experts emphasized that by halting humanitarian aid, including medical assistance and food supplies, Israel has effectively weaponized this aid in the conflict. They stated that this action is a serious violation of human rights and international humanitarian law and should be recognized as a war crime and a crime against humanity under the Rome Statute. Israel's actions, which involve intensifying the blockade and resuming bombings—particularly during the Ramadan holidays—have made conditions in Gaza unbearable. Even before, during the ceasefire, the situation was extremely difficult, and Palestinians, including pregnant women and people with disabilities, were dying due to the lack of shelter and medical facilities. According to the report, since the ceasefire began on January 19, 2025, Israeli forces have killed at least 100 Palestinians in Gaza. The experts stressed that, instead of respecting the ceasefire terms, Israel has worsened the situation by resuming attacks and the blockade. Additionally, the statement mentioned the support of some countries for Israel’s justification of cutting off aid, while Israel’s repeated violations of the ceasefire have not been covered adequately in the media. The experts called for immediate intervention by ceasefire mediators, including Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, to ensure the proper implementation of the ceasefire and the protection of Palestinian rights. The report also refers to a decision by the International Court of Justice, which has required Israel to facilitate the delivery of aid to Gaza. According to the experts, Israel must take its responsibility to end the occupation of Palestinian territories and respect international law seriously. Finally, the experts urged governments and the international community to fulfill their responsibilities regarding human rights and international law and to take immediate action to end the attacks and violations against the Palestinian people.
